In the IJzer water catchment area, one of the main problems is the flood risk. As the water does not stop at the border, and therefore the entire cross-border area is involved, many residents, businesses and farmerswere affected by the floods.To limit the flood risks in the cross-border IJzer water catchment area, water is retained at the furthest possible point upstream to improve the protection of urban areas downstream.
