Creating a new society – An outdoor simulation for
Start date: Mar 1, 2013,

Gender equality is still a burning issue in European countries. Women are discriminated just because they are women and in many countries the discrimination of women is not even considered a topic of relevance, but hidden behind cultural patterns. Forms of gender discrimination are diverse and differ in their severity. Thus, with this youth exchange we would like to engage into a dialogue with young people about gender equality and gender roles in their social environment. We would like to challenge our participants with different perceptions of the role of man and woman in modern Europe and in its past. Therefore, we will ask young people from six countries to engage into the demanding process of creating a gender equal society for the duration of the youth exchange. To make the situation more interesting the youth exchange will be held outdoors in form of a camping experience which automatically exposes the participants to simple question of shelter, food supply, sanitation and common ground rules right from the start of the encounter. With this approach we aim to:• To identify and discuss common forms of discrimination against women• To foster a gender-sensitive understanding of currently existing societal models and its inherent forms of discrimination• To experience that a new society based on gender equality is possible• To create follow-up initiatives that promote gender equality in the sending communitiesThe Georgian youth organisation Youth for the World will host the youth exchange in Shaori (Georgia). Its dates are June 27 to July 7 2013. 30 young people and 6 group leaders from Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Germany, Bulgaria and Italy will participate in the project.
