Cooperation network to improve social services for disabled youth in Zemgale and North Lithuania (SOC NETWORKING)

Background: Families in Zemgale who have children/youth with functional disabilities do not have opportunity to be socially active, to solve working and family problems. Social services in Zemgale do not have experience in rendering of respite care service. Colleagues in North Lithuania have good experience and training programme. In the Project active parents will share experience and social cross border network to fight social exclusion with common efforts. Objectives of the project Establishment of the cooperation network between public institutions and NGO in Zemgale and North Lithuania cross-border regions for upgrading variety of social services for disable people and straightening the family life quality. Sub-objectives of the project * network among families with children / young people with functional disabilities, and collaboration between support groups, thus facilitating cross-border co-operation between parents who have children with functional disabilities and social services to improve the quality of family life; * NGO's, Northern Lithuania and Zemgale the social service quality improvement through cross-border co-operation and good practice. Partner in Latvia: Zemgale Planning Region. In Lithuania: Day activities centre from Kretinga and Lithuanian welfare society for persons with mental disabilities "Klaipeda Viltis" from Klaipeda. Main activities: 1. Exchange of experience activity: cross-border cooperation and experience sharing between Zemgale and North Lithuanian the Social Services and their staff. 2. Improving social services: to obtain complete information about quantity of families who have children/youth with disability. Providing support to support groups for the parents and in the places where yet are not the support groups, develop it. To collect information and to create data base in internet about social services available for families with children with functional disabilities in Zemgale region. To create and publish brochure in simple language about special communication skills needed for peers in communication with young people with desabilities like with autism; with Downs syndrome, etc. 3. Activation of project targets group: activate project target group. Summer camp in North Lithuania, summer school in Zemgale, summer practical seminar in Zemgale. 4. "Preparation, translation and presentation of methodological material "Music of colours" (10-15p.)" Expected Results: Database: there will be provided detailed information about social services for children and young people with disabilities: type of social service; service providers title, contacts; description of service (working hours; specialists available; activities; methodologies; target group; agenda of day etc.); how to get the service (the procedures; prices. Information will be available online with selection possibilities. Develop cross-border social networking. Focus groups for parents in 5 places 4 times in each in Zemgale, to support that. Actived parents who lives in 22 Zemgale region municipalities. Organized by LP. 2 parents support groups in North Lithuania. Organized by PP2, PP3. The project was established a network of cross-border cooperation between parents and social workers. Was trained 70 Social Services staff of Zemgale and North Lithuania. In project activities was trained over 75 parents of Zemgale and North Lithuania. In the summer camp and summer school was participate 60 youth with functional disability. Study on child with functional disability and their parents. Society will be informed of project activities.
