Cooperation between Utena and Latgale region police institutions making harmoniuos environment (Police)

The main objective of the project is to enhance co-operation for safe and sustainable development of communities between the police offices of Latgale and Utena regions. Project activities are divided into three phases: improvement of the image of the police in both communities, increase of knowledge and expertise of the police officers and upgrade of the infrastructure of the police offices. According to EU legal framework police commissariats of the both countries are obliged to fulfil Schengen treaty. Project included seminars on application of EU and Schengen treaties and general requirements for patrolling. Practical exercises like cross-border investigations and joint patrols of border communities were held. Altogether more than 290 officers were trained during these activities.To improve the image of the police drawing contest My friend – policeman was held for students of two schools. A basketball tournament between policemen and members of local communities will be organised. Project produced a brochure where all the necessary and relevant information about road traffic regulations, requirements to cross-border movement of goods and contacts of police authorities is published. This brochure is distributed to residents and tourists in bordering regions. To ensure security of inhabitants, surveillance cameras are installed along the trunk of Kaunas - Zarasai - Daugavpils road. This will reduce number of criminal offenses and bring down the crime rate on the border. In order to improve conditions for temporarily detained facilities of Police offices will be repaired and windows in the cameras of detention centres will be replaced.
