Cooperation and cultural dialogue of Ukmergė and Svisloch communities (Ukmergė & Svisloch cultural dialogue)

The territory of Svisloch used to belong to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania once. This has encouraged the cross-cultural Ukmergė and Svisloch urban dialogue, which will revitalize old traditions, exchange experiences, establish a new intercultural communication. The duke Vincentas Tiškevičius reconstructed the town of Svisloch and founded the central market square where the famous fairs took place. Ukmergė was also considered to be the center of logistics and one of four most outstanding Lithuanian fairs of those times took place in it. It is important to revitalize these once popular fairs. The project will bring social benefits as members of society (especially youth) will have access to the ancient traditions and historical events. Project aims at strengthening of durable social-cultural networking between the communities of the towns Ukmergė and Svisloch. Expected Results: Expected result – a firm, sustainable and efficient cooperation between the towns of Ukmergė and Svisloch. 2 cultural events (historical information, cultural traditions, etc. will be shared) and 2 seminars will be organized. Cultural features of Lithuanian and Belarusian history will be presented, cultural traditions, their similarities and differences highlighted, information on the history of certain national festivals provided, their significance and customs, traditions and importance to population and national identity.
