CONVIVIUM
Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Oct 31, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

The "Convivium" project aims to futher develop the issues raised during the EVS experience of two volunteers from Italy and Portugal in the no profit organisation Taller de Educacion en Valores Alternativos. By working together we have found out that what Asti, Alburquerque and Tomar have in common is the absence of young people's participation in the community decision making process. That's why we want to use our medieval festivals as an experiment of active participation. We want to put together 24 young people and 3 group leaders from 3 different countries with a similar tradition- Festival Medieval Alburquerque, Palio di Asti and Festival Templario de Tomar- to allow them sharing knowledge about their festivals. Then we want to raise a debate on decision making process to help them finding out creative empowerment strategies. The project not only focuses on sharing knowledge but also on taking action. For that reason we want to work in an open space to facilitate collective creation. At the end of the process we want to allow participants to take an active role in the medieval festival of Alburquerque by playing an act during the central days of the event. With this project we want to make a significant impact at a local level not only in Alburquerque, but also in the other countries that will take part in the interchange. Our hope is that the issues raised after our debate will be taken into consideration in future decision making in the three local communities. In the end we want to change the point of view of the participants and turn our medieval festivals from consumistic events into a real space of collective creation and active citizenship.
