We trust that the project"CLIL at Bilingual Junior High School" will continue to be supported by the Heads of department from a range of subject areas and will be more integrated into schemes of work and thus impacting into teaching and learning in classrooms. The project will be integrated into the school's development plan and specific subject curricular models, offering a significant contribution to our European focus. The project will cover some or all of the following aspects:
Key concepts and theories in CLIL methodology
Language support for content learning
Personal language development
Language for classroom management and instruction giving
Materials development (task design, working with texts, visuals etc.)
Basic discourse analysis in key content areas
Types of questions and questioning techniques
Thinking skills and their role in activities and materials design
Subject-centred vocabulary building
Code-switching and working bilingually
Creating a language-rich classroom environment
Review of a range of internet and print resources for participants’ selected content areas
Assessment and testing
Microteaching of CLIL activities
The project will extend the teachers understanding and critical awareness of:
The history and theory of teaching content in English and English through content, as well as the principles underlying effective practice. The qualities and skills required by teachers involved in CLIL in a secondary context
The materials and methodology appropriate to CLIL in a secondary context and how to improve their command of English, especially in their classrooms. Language and linguistic competence at word, sentence and discourse level. How to identify and explore key issues in syllabus/course design
The modes of delivery and types of classroom interaction most appropriate to CLIL
The test instruments and assessment procedures which can be used in CLIL contexts with different language levels and content areas
The project's activities will receive media attention bringing a positive appraisal for the Comenius Education Initiative. Erasmus+ multilateral partnerships are planned where students will take part. Students will benefit from the methodological-didactic approach of teaching and learning competences of their teachers through better quality of their work and activities in favour of
the students.
