Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL)
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Zistersdorf's state middle school has been offering a "dual language programme" for a few years now. “Content and Language Integrated Learning” is being taught in every grade for one lesson each week. This means that the target language is integrated in a content lesson and that it is used to convey concepts and language skills at the same time. One major aim of teaching CLIL is increasing the students’ motivation by using the target language as a tool in a natural learning environment. This should bring about a prompt learning progress, as well as rapid success in the students' foreign language skills and in subject teaching. Secondly, the students ought to be prepared for their future careers. This aim can only be accomplished if they can express themselves in a foreign language, such as English, fluently. Moreover, a huge variety of teaching methods should be implemented in CLIL lessons so as to make them more interesting, appealing and interesting for the students. Given these activities are students-centred, the pupils would be encouraged to apply their recently acquired knowledge and would do that using the target language. Since the course participant is one of the main CLIL teachers at our school, it is paramount that she obtains professional knowledge and acquires methodological, as well as didactical skills to meet the demanding requirements of CLIL teaching.
