Construction of a road to connect Ásotthalom and Backi Vinogradi, planning of necessary infrastructure (Ásotth. - Bvin.)
Start date: May 31, 2010, End date: Nov 29, 2011 PROJECT  FINISHED

A narrow-gauge railway line was started from Szeged to Ásotthalom in 1928, which was providing access and livelihood to many, ceased to operate in 1976. Economic recovery of the town is expected from tourism. Large forests are rich in game, thus it could be a good target of hunter tourism. A popular spa resort on the other side of the border is Spa Palić, which weathered through the storms of the last decades in a relatively good condition. Even an international centre of tourism could be based upon the picturesque beauty of Lake Palić. A significant boom could result from a direct connection between these two areas boasting different tourist attractions. The direct objective of the project is the construction of the connecting infrastructure between Ásotthalom and Bački Vinogradi. The project consists of the following parts: 1. Construction of a road connecting Ásotthalom and Bački Vinogradi – with the cross-border partner Subotica; 2. A bicycle road planned both on the Hungarian and the Serbian side, to be realised by the Municipalities of Homokhát Small-Regional Developmental Association and Subotica. The 3rd part of the project is making plans of the border crossing facilities on the Serbian side with the partner Subotica. On the Hungarian side the 5511. number road - between Ásotthalom and the border - will be built with 1504,8 m length. The length of the road on the Serbian side is 1600m, 5,50m wide. Achievements: The lead up roads leading to the border crossing have been implemented on both side. The new border crossing point at Ásotthalom-Backi Vinogradi will be opened soon (expected in April 2013).
