The project was the first application we wrote since Colegiul „Stefan Odobleja”, was formed, following a merger of four former schools(one theoretical high school specialized in IT and three technical high schools). The project was designed as a two-year training programme, from 2014 to 2016, that would address some of the school’s needs, identified in the European Development Plan. The background at the time was as follows: - The school employed around 120 teachers, very well prepared in the area of their qualification, but who did not cooperate properly because they had not bonded as a group. - We were having difficulty attracting well-prepared students to our school, because people were reluctant concerning the function of these four schools as a whole. - The school was well-equipped with IT tools, there were over 10 IT laboratories, but they were hardly used for teaching other subjects. - Many teachers had never participated in European projects before. Therefore, the project’s objectives were: - To create cohesion between teachers and to develop teamwork abilities; - To use properly all the resources we had in order to improve the way we teach students; - To design our activities in a way that would attract and motivate students; - To promote our school locally and internationally, in order to create a positive image and to prove that we measure up to high standards in education. The four directions of the training addressed these four major requirements. 1. „Successful European Project Design”, Spain, 2014, taught us how to write applications within the Erasmus + programme, for KA1 and KA2. It also helped us establish connections with other European schools and set the premises for further cooperation. The following year we applied for a strategic partnership, having as partners „St. Vicent Ferrer”, a vocational school that we visited during our cultural programme in Valencia. We have applied for more Erasmus + projects since 2014. 2. „Empowerment of ICT Skills- Making Use of Technology Tools”, Malta, 2015, was an opportunity for the participants to learn how to use IT tools and online resources in order to enhance the students’ motivation and to promote their autonomy and participation in the learning process. Following this course, the teachers from Colegiul „Stefan Odobleja” developed a course, approved by the Dolj County School Inspectorate, which was used to train other teachers in the area. 3. „Group Dynamics and Social Skills in the Classroom”, Ireland, 2015, showed us ways to discover the function of the student groups according to their individual traits, to increase communication between teachers and students and to maximize efficiency during class activities. We have been using the methods and activities we learned during counseling classes or foreign language classes to stimulate cohesion between students and to create a pleasant atmosphere during classes. 4. „Interactive Teaching and Training Techniques”, Spain, 2016, showed us more ways to draw the students’ active participation, to design class activities by using modern means and resources. The number of mobilities throughout the project was 32, 8 participants for each course. The fact the Erasmus+ programme allowed more participants from the same school to attend a course was an advantage to us, because some teachers found it easier to travel and perform in an international environment since they were in a familiar group. There were 22 participants to the structured courses,selected by means of a procedure designed by a commission of selection. The participants submitted an application on the website of the project, explaining their motivation to participate in the course. The teachers selected to attend the courses were 2 English teachers, 2 French teachers, 1 Romanian language teacher, 4 Mathematics teachers, 2 IT teachers, 2 Physics teachers, 1 Chemistry teacher, 1 Geography teacher, 6 engineers teaching technical subjects and 1 IT specialist. We chose teachers from various fields to ensure that in each area, the participants could share their knowledge with the rest of the teachers and to try to develop teaching strategies for as many school subjects as possible. The project has been a good start for us into the Erasmus+ programme. We have learned a lot regarding project management and implementation. We are better prepared now to take on further projects. After analyzing the progress of the project during the two years, we have identified the aspects that need improving, as well as the ones that are good examples of teamwork and cooperation. The most important achievements are that we have created a positive image of our school to our community, which has brought about the students’ interest in our high school.
