Competencia lingüística del profesorado como puerta hacia Europa
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

In our School, a Secondary School with almost 1000 students (Secondary Education and VET) we have always had a clear European vocation. We are well aware of the importance of languages training as a key to open the gate of Europe for our students, showing them a wider horizon where they can get the academic or labour training that can assure them a hopeful future as citizens, and workers. For that reason we joined the Official English Bilingual Program, and have participated in a number of activities in Erasmus and Comenius programs in the previous years. Before the difficult scenario of our youth labour market, we consider even more crucial to address our efforts to the improvement of the linguistic competence of our students, and to make them appreciate the possibilities that their European citizenship offers them beyond our national boundaries. The first step to accomplish this goal is the improvement of the linguistic training of our teaching staff, and their own knowledge of other realities in the scope of education and labour. That is why this project intends to send 7 teachers during 2 weeks, during the summer holiday, to teacher training specific courses designed to improve their English level and to develop techniques to teach their own subjects in English. And they will do it while they relate with counterparts from a range of different EU countries with whom they will be able to exchange impressions and experiences, and set the bases for future cooperation projects. All the teachers participating in the courses will be selected according to objective criteria that will guarantee a maximum aprovechamiento of their participation. These teachers will participate in activities of English improvement for teachers and CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) methodology in Cambridge University. Back to our School, through the follow-up and dissemination activities planned, there will be an impact on the rest of the educative community in terms of teaching practice improvement -especially regarding the integration of English- and development of international initiatives to exchange experiences and foster students mobility. The expected impacts, quantified in the evaluation indicators defined in this project, are the quantitative and qualitative reinforcement of our Official English Bilingual Program and the interest of the teaching staff in the exchange of experiences with teachers from other EU countries. As a consequence of all the planned actions we expect to maximize the opportunities of our students to take the most advantage of their European citizenship, thus being able to enjoy its advantages. Increasing their linguistic capacities, and their knowledge of the reality of other EU countries, we want to offer them new perspectives to complete their education, strictly in the academic scope, or in the labour market.
