Communication on stage: fostering knowledge, empowering skills
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Feb 28, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Since our world is full of tools that link and connect people, we thought that it was really important to experience different ways to comunicate, discoverying possibilities and risks in using them. The main objective was the exploration of some of those tools, from publicity and TV to theatre and body language. 24 youngsters, aged 14 - 17, eight per country participated in this exchange. The project consisted in a strong preparatory phase where youth were deeply involved in defining the organization of the different phases, prepared materials and submitted questionnaires to their local communities about different tools of communication, in order to investigate about how they were used to. The exchange took place in Italy from December 28th to January 4th. In the first days they worked on different tools of communication, i.e. social network, publicity, body language, working out results coming from their preliminary survey and analyzing at the same time the differences among cultures. Youth met people coming from an association active in our local communities that promotes dance on wheelchairs; this meeting had a great impact on them. In the last days of the exchange they worked on theatre, as a particular way of self expression. Through the experience of theatre (that included a deeper study on body language, improvisation activities and rehearsals for a short performance) they improved their self knowledge and learnt a new tool of self expression and understanding the others. The methodology used in the activities can be described as "learning by doing", as it actively involved the youths in all the steps of the exchange, through games, creative activities, workshops, brainstormings, focus groups, exercises of expressiveness. Participants achived a higher level of self knowledge, exploring different ways to express themselves and to understand the others. After the exchange the groups, as testimonials, organized several meetings with their local communities (schools, institutions, associations, etc.) to show and display the results of the exchange and the main goals achieved, through pictures and videos collected in a DVD.
