ComICS: Creating InterCultural Stories

The international training "ComICS: Creating InterCultural Stories" that will take place in Latvia, in Talsu novads and in Riga from 10 - 17 October, 2016, aims to discover comics creating workshops as an effective tool in the promotion of healthy intercultural dialogue working with multicultural groups of young people. The training will give a space for 22 youth workers, leader and educators from Latvia, Portugal, Poland and Germany to develop their drawing skills, strengthen their ability to raise healthy and peaceful inter-cultural dialogue and to discover how comics-creating workshops could help them in the integration process both for immigrants and locals. The youth workers, educators and leaders with and without migration background are invited to this training course, and especially the ones who work daily with multicultural groups of young people, including migrants, refugees and asylum seekers. The objectives of the project are: • To raise the awareness and empathy about the current migration situation in Europe based on objective facts and human perspectives;• To gain practical skills of making comics and using comics as a facilitation and learning tool in inter-cultural education;• To create comics based on personal stories that could be used afterwards as learning material (in exhibition and e-book) for creating opportunities for a healthy inter-cultural dialogue and to raise awareness of immigration issues in Europe. As a result of the training, the e-book of participants' comics and a traveling exhibition will be created. After the training every partner will organize a comics' exhibition in local public space disseminate the project’s results and promote the inter-cultural dialogue in the local communities of partner organizations.
