COMCARE - Measurement and teaching of vocational competence, occupational identity and organizational commitment in health care occupations in Spain, Norway, Poland and Germany.

A finding of the DUKOM project is that a serious demand for measuring competencies of healthcare occupations exists. This aim requires a valid instrument. Heterogeneous structures of the educational systems impede a clear comparison difficult. The measurement of learning progress and the official certification of the required occupational abilities is presently conducted by using various methods. When measuring competencies and comparing them on an international level, a method therefore is needed which is applicable independent from the educational system it is applied to. A possibility for comparing competencies regardless of the educational system is to focus on real vocational work processes. This requires that specialists from the health care sector find tasks to be identical in various countries. The project aimed at creating learning tasks related to occupational practice. Therefor the competence of health care workers were measured on international level. Moreover the development of vocational identity and commitment in their relation to the context has been described.
