Coloured vegetable gardens
Start date: Nov 30, 2003, End date: Jun 29, 2005 PROJECT  FINISHED

This project stems from the need to enhance the cross-border vegetable production typical of the Cavallino Treporti area in Italy, and of Gorizia area in Slovenia, through the promotion of vegetable gardening and the support to the consumption of these products. The agricultural sector plays a strategic role in relaunching a kind of supply which should aim at connecting outdoor tourism with vegetable gardening and the typical local products. The purpose therefore is “promoting” the growing areas of the typical vegetables not just as production centres but as forms of tradition, knowledge and art, for they give voice to that rural civilization that succeeded in evolving whilst safeguarding the genuine, natural, typical and qualitative features of food. At first research will be carried out in the sector of vegetable production in the Cavallino Treporti area, and all collected data will be gathered in an informative CD-rom and in the guide “Coloured vegetable gardens: a guide to the discovery of vegetable production in the area of Cavallino Treporti”, including a map which draws original thematic routes devoted to the typical local vegetables and provides information about visits to the local farms and the restaurant circuit. Through the Northern Lagoon web site, set up in the framework of the “Lagoons” project, one can access an area devoted to “Coloured vegetable gardens”, where the results achieved will be shown, and the typical vegetables of the Venetian Northern Lagoon will be listed.
