Colored Glasses – междукултурно образование и разбирателство
Start date: 01 Aug 2014, End date: 31 Jul 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

?Colored Glasses? consists of a series of workshops concerning the topics ?Stereotypes? and ?Prejudices?, Discrimination/ Racism? and ?Cultural Understanding?. The workshops last between 2 and 4 hours, including an introductory game as well as students and teacher feedback. In the first half of 2010 Colored Glasses was successfully introduced in Bulgaria. Since then several trainings for teamers were organized. Overall 45 volunteers with and without YFU background could be recruited. Since the pilot projectmore than 120 workshops have been held in secondary schools in Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Kardzhali, Pravets, Blagoevgrad, Shumen, Lovech, Burgas, Montana, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Svishtov and Sofia so that already more than 1000 students in grades 8 until 12 have been able to participate in one of the 4 workshops. In April 2011 our project particpated on the German weeks, organized by the German Embassy, so the project have visited 5 North Bulgarian towns in 5 days ? Lovech, Ruse, Silistra, Dobrich and Shumen. We regularly participate in different events organized by the German embassy. Our aim is to visit as many cities and schools as possible and to reach as many young people as possible. The goal is to start a dialogue and raise the awarness so that the young people understand and show other cultures a greater tolerance. This is in line with the mission of YFU (YFU advances intercultural understanding, mutual respect, and social responsibility through educational exchanges for youth, families, and ommunities."), but also a need within the Bulgarian society today. Although the number of 45 volunteers seems impressive, we also know, that due to other engagements most of them are involved short term only and we have to keep up recruitment and training seminars. Our last projects were able to conduct first workshops in English and Spanish, which additionally motivates us to expand our volunteer network and to reach bigger number of students. A Bulgarian version of ?Colored Glasses? has already been used and with the new volunteer we will introduce French language workshops. The expected result includes an increased sensitivity towards the topics around the theme 'intercultural dialogue' as well as a rise in interest in volunteering.
