Color of Incursion_ Express Yourself Though Graffiti

Context and Background:The young people involved in this project had different backgrounds based on social and geographical obstacle, what causestheir less activeness and participation in everyday social life. This Youth Exchange project aims were to motivate those kind ofyoung people and involve them in active social life by using attractive and interesting tools like graffiti. In the rural areas due tolow level of social-economic development young people are facing several challenges.Project provided support for young people, their organizations and local communities where their live. Participants every eachday worked together and experienced Graffiti for empowering participation and social inclusion. The main goal was to creategraffiti murals that expressed their ideas about cultural diversity and youth involvement in social life and learn how to expressthemselves though urban art.The objectives of the Youth Exchange were:• To increase knowledge of participants about graffiti and graffiti culture, subculture and philosophy;• Explore each individuals potential relation with art and particular with Graffiti• To teach basic graffiti techniques;• To use graffiti to spread messages of Youth active participation in social life;• To promote inter-cultural dialogue;• To provide space for creativity of young people;• To produce a colourful and divers murals on the walls;• To develop new initiatives in the field of art, cultural diversity and youth involvement in the social life issues within theframework of the Erasmus + programNumber and Profile of the Participants:29 young people between the ages of 16 and 25 years. The young people were 4 and with one leader from each sending /partner organization. Two of them were a part of the sending / partner organisation with experience of graffiti and non-formaleducation. The others were less connected to the organisation and from rural areas.Description of Activities:The following working methods implemented:• Group work• Discussions• Presentations• Brain storming• Creative workshops• Simulation• Team building games/ energizers/ ice-beakers, etc.These methods provided an effective group and individual communication and gave a chance to all participants to improve theircreativity, other skills and develop tolerance; The youth involved in every stage of the project: preparation, realization and followup. On preparation stage participants had meetings in their organizations, where they collected useful information, plan whatthey presented on YE, prepare the workshops which was under their responsibility and worked out ideas for public activities.During the project each participant was completely involved in every activity and event. On the last stage of the project asfollow-up activities they were directed to make informational event for young people from their organizations and other interestedvolunteers, made newsletter about the project and put it on their web pages.It was agreed between organizations that non–formal education method will be used during the YE. They provided participantswith the practical knowledge how to paint and make the sketches and how use sprays and colours. Also how to take care of thesafety, to be careful while painting and using them in a safe way in order to avoid the damages.During the YE we planned to make different creative workshops, team-building activities, ice-breakers, energizers,expectations-fears-contributions, meetings/evaluations, identity workshop , workshop about cultural dimension. Identityworkshops, Workshops about cultural dimension about work together activities, excursion, intercultural evenings.The Methodologies:The working methods included: small group work, group building, self-assessment, experiential learning, reflection – individualand group, peer learning, intercultural learning, learning to learn, inputs, sharing, and self-directed learning.Results and Impact:The project were a new and unique experience, not only for the participants but also for other people, citizens of Udabno and thelocal environment was impacted by the results of the project. The impact for the participants was that they understood that arethe ones who have a capacity of changes with their initiatives, creativity and with their active participation in social life, in thiscase they expressed in the way of changing the look of ugly, gray building and walls in to the nice, colourful and attractivelooking wall. This painted murals changed and turned little village Udabno into a very different and modern looking place thanksto the YOUTH and Erasmus + programme. This fact improved and raised the confidence of participants that they are and theyhad the power of changes and positive impact on the society.
