Colindres, Youth Way 2015
Start date: Jan 1, 2015, End date: Nov 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

This group EVS project in Colindres (Cantabria, Spain) was a continuation of a previous similar project. Three volunteers from Germany, Macedonia and Reunion Island (France) during 6 months supported the regular activities and planned actions carried out by the Youth Department the Municipality of Colindres (SERJUCO). It was the result of collaboration between Asociación Ser Joven, its international partners and the Youth Service of the City of Colindres (SERJUCO) and as an added value sought to enrich young people, volunteers and professionals providing different perspectives, techniques, ideas of foreign volunteers bring other European cultures (languages, folklore, gastronomy) to youth and children in the center thanks to direct contact with people from abroad. It also gave the opportunity for young volunteers to meet Spain, Cantabria and especially the people of Colindres, learn about SERJUCO facilities, tools and activities, allowing these young people to discover the world of non-formal education. The volunteers assisted in the development of planned activities and training courses. Moreover they helped to organize activities for children, including workshops, games and activities enriching them with their own proposals and initiatives and supported youth leaders at the Youth Club, where the teenagers participated in arts and crafts workshops, cooking workshops, tournaments and demonstrations, as well as English conversation workshops, which were proposed by the volunteers. Moreover, specific info days about Erasmus + mobility and interrail program were organized. In July SERJUCO organized European Youth Week- an event full of attractive activities for local youth and youth from other municipalities. For professionals from SERJUCO, this project meant to refresh their working methods and get to know youth workers from other countries and establish future projects; to encourage youth participation in European programs involving mobility and learning. Besides helping young people to lose their fear to communicate in foreign languages, to travel and to respect what is unknown and what is different. Moreover the volunteers participated in educative activities run by Asociación Ser Joven with its partners in Cantabria (participation in the development of the unit on intercultural learning during the Training Course for Youth Group Leaders at the University of Cantabria and the International Work Camp “Camesa 2015”). Among the direct results of the project we can highlight the development of the next volunteering project and sending one young user of SERJUCO abroad. Participants and professionals improved their communication skills in English, German and French and learnt about different aspects of the cultures of the countries of origin of the volunteers. They carried out new initiatives (conversation workshops, development of a youth exchange project involving youth from Colindres and Réunion Island) and got to know several opportunities for mobility in Europe. Local volunteers participated in training activities to develop their coaching skills and initiatives to promote the Erasmus + Program. SERJUCO professionals discovered and improved ways of dialogue respecting different points of view of the volunteers. The project results are reflected in the blog created by volunteers https://colindresyouthway.wordpress.com/about/ and https://colindresyouthway.wordpress.com/everyday-life-tips-for-colindres/ and were published on SERJUCO Facebookpage https://www.facebook.com/pages/Serjuco-Juventud-Colindres/886015228126807 and will be included in the Annual Report of Asociación Ser Joven published on our website:
