Coast to coast - Development of tourist berths in the Po delta area and respective infrastructures for small watercraft and tourist fishing
Start date: Dec 31, 2002, End date: Dec 30, 2006 PROJECT  FINISHED

The “Coast to Coast” project promotes and supports socio-economic development in the area of the Po Delta and consists of five actions aimed at intensifying cooperation between Italian and Slovenian institutions and economic operators, by creating a tourist, cultural, environmental and educational flow between the two shores of the Adriatic. This project led to the construction of new tourist mooring facilities and the completion of connecting structures between ports and docks used for small watercraft. These actions intend to facilitate navigation and encourage tourists to discover this landscape marked by the flowing of the Po branches and the Adriatic coastline. Itineraries were developed and connected with the existing bicycle tracks as well as with hotel accommodations, thus connecting spots of naturalistic value in the Delta area. The mooring points set up along the Po river branches will slow down the deterioration of their banks and will contribute to environmental protection. The mooring facilities available at selected points in the Delta area will foster new entrepreneurial initiatives and support typical local handicraft, to prevent the disappearance of such activities. Easier access to the Delta area using existing waterways promotes the development of bird watching activities and enables the tourists to visit important historical sites, while encouraging sports fishing operators.
