CLIL en Anglais
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The CLIL (EMILE) section was set up at Bernard de Ventadour secondary school in September 2013, as a follow-up of the CLIL programme at Alissas primary school, maths being the content subject taught through English. We wanted to expand our educational team and offer two or three content subjects for each grade (Physical Education, Biology, Physics and History-Geography) as well as work in close collaboration with Alissas primary school. Ten teachers were supposed to be involved, some of them having a supplementary qualification in English, others training for it. We needed to develop their proficiency in the language taught through their subject (English) as well as their skills to organize their teaching process. In reality, due to a discrepancy between the project as it had been first thought and the way it was understood, the 2-school joined mobilities could not be implemented and only our school could benefit from it. The aims remained the same , that is to say carry out and improve the CLIL experiment in our school. The number of participants was down to 6 teachers , two of them benefited from two mobilities. We were all given CLIL specific pedagogy lessons, we all visited and observed lessons in secondary schools. Non linguistic subject teachers attended English language lessons. As a result, our point of view about CLIL teaching has changed , with a more accurate perception of the difficulties inherent to CLIL teaching, a better cooperation between subjects, a better understanding of everybody's mission and an interesting questioning of the best pedagogy for CLIL. In the longer term, we could be a reference centre for CLIL teaching in Rhône-Alpes and could support any initiative of new openings of CLIL sections in primary schools.
