Citygreeners into action
Start date: Sep 20, 2014, End date: Jun 19, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project “Citygreeners into action” is a training course structured in 3 phases; input, observation and sharing time, output. It took place in the region of Messinia and in particular in the city of Kalamata and not in Messini (as was programmed) due to practical accommodation reasons. The project focus was the application in the city of permaculture designing to rethink the city in a sustainable way in order to revalue public space. The project was a follow up of a previous project on education for environmental issues and sustainable development. The engineering of the project and the network was born by the participation of youth leaders in other projects. This training course involved 28 youth workers coming from 5 countries (France, Georgia, Serbia, Italy and Greece) to share competences and knowledge about environmental issues, wellbeing and health, to active action learning and active participation. It was a 10 days training course, from the 20th until the 29th structured in three phases sessions, while on the 30th of April we had a last closing up session before departures. The activities planned were team building activities, workshops about technical competences concerning environment, reduce of waste, urban designing and living, active observation and learning, creative thinking and problem solving methods. The action training, offered to the youth worker the opportunity to test and experiment new methods and solutions on the field, putting into action the competences acquired and shared. The learning process was based on non formal methods and coaching to support participants to learn to know, to learn to do, to learn to be. The project results: - was the local realization of an action to use public space and to green using permaculture designing methods. - the creation of a new team of youth workers, potential multipliers, with skills and knowledge in environmental issues, health and wellbeing that will be able to actively participate, support and raise awareness to their local societies and beyond. Project's local impact was to raise awareness to local citizens about sustainable development, activate their participation and include local citizens in the realization of something to their benefit. The long term benefits concern the activation of a local and international dynamic of proactive youth workers that act as multipliers of a process of change and reflection on urban shaping and the exploiting of public space to improve peoples quality of life.
