City Is a Hybrid Interface
Start date: Nov 1, 2011,

The aim of the HYBRI-CITY project is to have a creative and technologically informed look at selected European cities, Athens, Prague, Istanbul and last but not least European Cultural Capital 2013 Marseille, in order to create innovative forms of interactive representation for the processes that shape these cities. Concretely, we will support intense interdisciplinary interactions among audiovisual media artists, architects, urban planners, policy makers and the citizens with a goal to make visible and tangible the seemingly invisible flows of people, objects, and data in the city environments. Special focus will be on a comparative analysis of collected data allowing for dynamic interactive navigation in newly created information visualizations.HYBRI-CITY project will comprise explorative and production activities involving communities of volunteers as well as those of expert knowledge in arts, humanities, sciences and technologies. In a series of research and creation workshops we will collect, analyse, and process city data of various kinds and integrate them in the forms of information that can be interactively navigable. The resulting information representations will be exhibited in public spaces for large numbers of audiences. The project will also be based on the development and integration of a “wiki-a-polis” participatory platform that will make it possible for other cities and their citizens to capture real-life and environment data, and to process as well as visualize them in forms that will be attractive and understandable for their local audiences.Communication and dissemination of project results will be an integral and important part of the project with a specific aim to foster long-term interest of European population in data that make up their home environments. In this respect, critical approach will be applied opening up a potential for wide and voluntary participation of citizens in cultural production.
