Citizenship and election
Start date: Jun 17, 2014, End date: Jun 16, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

„Citizenship and election” is a 7 day training course that will take place in Sletterstrand, Denmark in November 2014. The training involves 24 youth leaders from: Denmark, Germany, Lithuania, Romania, Spain, and Greece between 18 and 30 years old. This project is based on different studies that show low participation of young people in elections. One study conducted by the European Commission called “Political Participation and EU Citizenship: Perceptions and behaviors of young people” shows a low participation in national elections of young people under 24 years old. The youth absenteeism in elections lead to a weak representation of their interests and need in democratic forums whether they are national or European. The project aims to strengthen the well-being of young people in Europe by their inclusion in political and decision-making processes at all levels. The followings are the project objectives: - to deepen participants understanding upon democratic processes at national and EU level; - to give the participants tools to promote democratic participation and responsibility among young people in their local communities; - to give participants specific understandings upon EU citizenship and the rights that come with it; - to strengthen the partners cooperation through the Erasmus+ programme, in particular in the field of democratic participation of youth. The training will be done through non-formal education, presentations, team-building exercises, discussions, social activities and games. The project will strengthen democratic participation of young people, their involvement in election and will enhance their sense of citizenship including European citizenship. Furthermore, the project will foster the cooperation between the partners involved in the youth filed. On long term perspective, the project shall strengthen national and European democracy and will contribute to the well-being of young people in Europe.
