Children's Land
Start date: Aug 1, 2011,

The group EVS project Children's Land is coordinated by the Portuguese organisation ESDIME in partnership with GAIA Alentejo (Portugal) and ΑΝΙΑ (Peru), involving six Portuguese and 2 Peruvian young volunteers. Volunteers will dedicate 12 months to volunteering in environmental projects with children, in Peru and Portugal. The host organisation ΑΝΙΑ has identified three different projects of Children's Land, in the regions of lea, Cuzco and Chavín de Huantar, which will welcome the 6 youngsters sent by GAIA and lead them through this methodology of environmental non-formal education. Simultaneously, two volunteers sent by ΑΝΙΑ will be hosted at the Children's Land project of GAIA, in the rural region of Alentejo, Portugal. The volunteers will support the different fases of the methodology, since motivating children towards nature preservation to helping children to design, create and manage their own piece of land. Volunteers are thus given the opportunity of learning and applying Children's Land and will be encouraged to apply their experience and knowledge by returning to their original community. The project aims at fostering young people's participation and active citizenship, in particular youth from rural areas, at promoting the intercultural experience between Europe and Latin Amercia and at facilitating the exchange of best practices in the field of environment and sustainability.
