Children are the future of Europe II
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: Dec 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Children are the future of Europe II is a project for three European volunteers from three different European programme countries (Italy, The Czech Republic and Poland) and 1 volunteer from a European partner country (Georgia). The volunteers will be working with three different Kindergartens in Leipzig: the BuchKindergarten (Book Kindergarten), the Kindergarten Biedermannstrasse and Kindergarten Familiengarten (Family Garden). This project will be coordinated by FAIRbund e.V. in Leipzig. The participants in the project will come to Leipzig for 12 months from September 2014 until the end of August 2015, giving them the opportunity to see the development of the kindergarten over the entire year. They are encouraged to take on their own individual projects as well as working within the normal daily routine of the kindergarten. The project is to help the European volunteers, the children, the educators at the kindergarten, the parents and the local community to think about the future of Europe and to work in small steps to develop this future. Here the project title 'Children are the future of Europe' seems particularly appropriate. Through this project, the children in the receiving institutions (the kindergartens) get direct contact with the young volunteers from other countries who are here with new ideas and suggestions to aid the development of the children. In the kindergartens there are many opportunities for the volunteers to contribute artistically and creatively. In the BuchKindergarten there are the facilities to print books, Biedermannstrasse has a wonderful studio and Familiengarten has a clay making workshop. The kindergartens allow themselves some room within their educational practices and concepts to take on new contributions and suggestions from the volunteers, allowing the volunteers to work together with the experienced staff members to realise these projects. Both the Biedermannstrasse and Familiengarten Kindergartens are inclusive kindergartens which means that they cater for children with special educational needs. This extra dimension gives the participants the opportunity to learn about the educational theory and concepts behind caring for children who require a bit more attention.
