Cara Cheshire House is located in the Phoenix Park about 6 miles from Dublin City Centre. The Centre is based in a spacious building with a 4 bedroom, 2 and 1/2 bathroom upstairs apartment for volunteers. All meals are provided and cooked by our chef who can accommodate different dietary needs. Laundry opportunity and shower facilities for the volunteer are provided. Volunteers have access to cooking facilities and a weekly shopping list can be filled by the kitchen staff. Internet access is provided, most of our rooms have wireless internet access too. Our aim here is to provide quality, person-centred services, which facilitate people with disabilities to live a life of their own choosing. The Cara Cheshire House provides residential accommodation and other support services for 22 people with physical, neurological and sensory disabilities. Generally, it can be said that we do provide high access accommodation and, while being part of a community, volunteers can enjoy their privacy if they feel the need. Our staff consists of qualified support workers, nurses, garden and maintenance staff, FAS workers, activities coordinator and drivers. During their time here, volunteers get to enjoy a close working relationship with the staff. The target group are mainly people with a disability who wish to have a social life and partake of events in their own community, as well as go to daily groups, clubs and after hours classes and need support to become socially included. The service users come from a variety of different backgrounds and with different support needs.
