Central Environmental and Energy Management as a kit for survival (CEEM)
Start date: Oct 31, 2012, End date: Nov 29, 2012 PROJECT  FINISHED

The regions of central Europe are characterised by a medium-high economic activity mainly performed by micro companies and small and medium sized enterprises, representing mostly traditional industrial sectors (i.e. construction and building, food, manufacturing, automotive). These companies have a strong impact on the environment; thus a key factor for sustainable economic development of this region is the implementation of environmentally friendly technologies in the production and process life cycle. In order to reach this goal, promotion of economic, social and environmental advantages of cleaner production and consumption processes, which are not yet sufficiently perceived as positive values, has to be strengthened. The CEEM project is addressing eco-energy performance of SMEs in participating regions, including the harmonisation of quality and efficiency parameters of the industrial sector through transnational cooperation. Achievements: CEEM aims at increasing the environmental responsibility and improving the energy performances of companies of the Central European area by contributing to the promotion of environmentally friendly technologies to ensure eco-efficient production and consumption processes. These objectives are being reached providing Central European (CE) companies with an ICT tool (named Eco Energy Efficiency Management Tool, 3EMTool) to self assess their eco energy performance. The tool will be accessible through the CEEM website (www.ceemproject.eu) as an easy, user-friendly, free of charge tool for companies. It will be tested involving a sample of 500 Central European companies in order to create also the basis for a benchmarking activity. Out of this group, 100 case studies reports will be prepared to be discussed at Central European Policy level. The lessons drawn from the use of the Tool by the Central European companies involved will be collected in a Transnational Strategy Document to be adopted by regional/national policy makers responsible for environment protection and industry policies. In the period May-Nov.2013, CEEM partners have focused their attention on management issues and technical activities in order to complete the development of the Tool questionnaire and software. The 3EMTool, being the tool that CE companies will use to self assess the Eco Energy performance, is the base for the Pilot Action, whose results will offer the material for the involvement of CE policy makers in the last stage of the project. The 3EMTool is composed of a questionnaire, in which companies will enter their eco energy data. These, shall be elaborated by the software which will generate a Self Assessment Report. This is a status quo report, which analyzes Eco Energy performance of the company and gives a benchmark of its performance. The results of the efforts were presented at a Technical Meeting held in Trento, at Partner 3 premises on 2nd August 2013, in which technical partners discussed how to and make work together questionnaire, software and benchmarking methodology. Great attention was given to the completion of the benchmarking methodology. It shall start from statistical data on the consumption on energy in industry; in the progression of the Pilot Action, the benchmark will be conducted on Eco Energy data and information collected from the questionnaires filled by CE companies. This huge deal of information will allow CE companies to benchmark themselves and also thanks to the help given by Eco Energy experts involved in the pilot action.
