Name: Increasing the Efficiency of Language Teaching Thanks to Lifelong Learning
Term of Implementation: 1. 7. 2014 – 30. 6. 2016
Project Subject
The goal of the project was to improve foreign language teaching skills by means of developing teachers’ language competences and key skills. The main issues were getting to know new teaching methods to support teacher-pupils interaction, development of pupils’ language competences and improvement of their graduation exam preparation in agreement with CEFR.
Course Description
Four foreign language teachers (2 of English, 1 of French, 1 of German) took part in this project and participated in seven twelve-day didactic-methodical courses that happened in the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany and Austria.
The content of the courses included new teaching strategies, use of modern technologies and media, application of authentic materials in lessons and improvement in intercultural knowledge. Sharing experience from good practice with teachers and tutors from other EU countries was also significant.
The participating teachers used the newly-gained skills in their lessons; they evaluated the project and organized an information seminar for teachers of foreign languages.
Outcomes
The realization of the project gave the participants new skills. The project evaluation confirms that the pupils and teachers have found foreign language learning and teaching more attractive and satisfactory. These are successful in particular: linking language teaching together with current facts about life in the EU, improving pupils’ language competences by means of experience and strengthening the lexicon by alternative ways of perception.
The seminar participants were provided with practical information about how to organize an educational project; they got recommendation for choosing course providers and information about useful activities for classes.
