CEIP Ródenas: mejorando y modernizando la educación
Start date: Jul 1, 2016, End date: Jun 30, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

The "CEIP Ródenas: improving and modernizing education" project has been developed in response to the widespread feeling that current school is not going at the same speed than society. Paraphrasing Monereo many of us believe that the school still teaches today contents from the 19th century, through 20th century teachers to 21st century students. It is necessary, therefore, a change of approach that helps improve, innovate and modernize education. This change has to take shape and be developed in the classrooms with the introduction of new methodologies that take into account the learning usefulness and its transferibility to the students's everyday life.To achieve this, CEIP Eduardo Martinez Ródenas in Benicarló (Castellón) proposes three major strategic lines that will develop a creative and dynamic school setting, open to cooperation, citizens participation and knowledge networks; institutional improvement; the synergy among members of the educational community and, finally, educational innovation:1- Pedagogical and methodological renewal: Faculty members, along with students and families, are living a change of approach based on the principles of dialogic learning whose purpose is to equally respond to the challenges and needs posed by education today as evidenced by the INCLUDED project.2- Improving the linguistic communication competence in English in order to increase students' motivation to learn foreign languages; to improve their oral skills; the teaching of non-linguistcs subjects through CLIL methodology and, therefore, to improve the students' results in external tests.3- The European dimension of education fostering active citizenship: In other words, the importance of opening our school abroad, to Europe; to develop the students' awareness of the European dimension; to promote international cooperation; to avoid stereotypes about different nationalities; to learn from our European partners through the exchange of ideas and dialogue. To accomplish this, and although this project includes all educational community members; a system for selecting candidates has been established. Six teachers will attend structured training in the three aforementioned strategic lines and they will, eventually, share the learning outcomes with all the community members. The proposed training activities revolve around learning resources and methodologies to develop the students communicative competence in English and how to implement CLIL materials effectively. Moreover, activities focused on the inclusion of all kinds of students and upgrading the skills of teachers are also proposed. Finally, there will be activities focused on the internationalization of the school and how to manage our participation in European programs. The project results will improve the three proposed strategic lines and the quality of the education provided in the school. The impact of this project will affect at all levels and in all school community as it promotes new forms of organization of school time and space; the usage of new teaching materials; a more dynamic role for teachers and, finally, the school insertion in local formal and non-formal educational networks.Teachers will substantially improve their teaching abilities, their language and communication skills in a foreign language while integrating good practices into their daily work. On the other hand, students will develop all eight key competences for lifelong leaning, especially that of linguistic communication, becoming more fluent and getting a better pronunciation when expressed orally. Finally, the school will improve its corporate image and it will deepen the European dimension of education as it becomes more internationalized.
