CBSS Summer university
Start date: Dec 31, 2012,

This flagship project will establish a summer seminar for higher education students in order to create an appropriate platform for discussing issues that are considered of high relevance to the region, including that of cross-border cooperation initiatives between the EU Member States and Russia. This seminar will serve as an indicator for regional concerns that young future professionals and academics may have about the future of the Baltic Sea region. It will also bring together interested higher education institutions in the region in a dialogue that may lead to closer collaboration on practices to further academic inquiry into the issue of macro-regional cooperation in the Baltic Sea region (including formalised joint courses/programmes on subjects tailored to regional needs). Achievements: The first CBSS Summer University entitled „Governance and Administration in the Baltic Sea Region“ took place on 4th–14th August 2014, Centre for Baltic and East European Studies, Södertörn University, in Sweden. The CBSS Summer University invited 20 advanced master as well as doctoral students from political science, environmental studies, law, international relations, administration science, but also from other disciplines with a more practical link to Baltic Sea cooperation, e.g. economics, communication, to its first summer university in Sweden. The course not only introduced the basics of governance and administration in the Baltic Sea Region by drawing on different disciplines, but also offered insight into the practice of cooperation. In summer 2015 the 2nd CBSS Summer University will take place at Humboldt-Universität. During following years, the summer school will be organised to alternate between other universities in the Baltic Sea Region. From 2015 onwards, a short-term training programme for civil servants shall also be offered.
