Cave del Predil international geomineral park
Start date: Jun 30, 2004, End date: Aug 30, 2006 PROJECT  FINISHED

This project will set up an international, geomineral, historical and environmental route inside the dismantled Raibl mine (at Cave del Predil in the Municipality of Tarvisio) which is unique in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. Specifically, a route is created inside the mine systems and the Kaiser Franz Erbstollen tunnel (Francesco tunnel) will be renovated as well as the Camerone Santa Barbara facility that will be adapted to house an exhibition space. The project also entails an upgrading of the rail transport system, the acquisition of a small passenger train similar to the one used by the miners, and the installation of an adequate primary and emergency lighting system. The project aims therefore at the recovery and the tourist enhancement of the Raibl mine, in order to complete, consolidate and improve the current offer of tourist services in the area, where the Cave del Predil Mineralogical Museum is located. It is envisaged to set up similar connections and collaborations with relevant Museums present in Slovenia (Idrija and Mezica) and in Carinthia (Beliberg), in order to extend and intensity cross-border cooperation in the cultural and tourist fields through the creation of a network connecting local authorities and associations active in the interested areas.
