Project CITY takes an in-depth look at communities and finds ways to describe them visually in the form of a "mindmap", including as many community members in the process as possible. The initial set of ideas, images, traces, tag clouds, and other data will be provided by the volunteer community of NELK, comprised of young people coming from various backgrounds and cultures. As we progress in visualizing the connections, views, and values of this smaller community, we will start working to include more and more people from the city of Tartu, in a process that allows participants to contribute in artistic and creative fashions, and become a part of the dynamic mindmap of the community. This will be both a process as well as a documentation of one instance of a contemporary European urban environment, where locals and foreigners meet in the same space and build on each other’s experience By promoting this questioning process of the relation between the individual and community, CITY will function as the starting point for active participation in public issues.
