Cantat Spirit
Start date: Jun 2, 2014, End date: Jun 1, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The choral movement plays an important role in the field of adult education. Singing in a choir has strong community building capacities: it teaches singers to listen, adapt and cooperate with each other, it develops creativity, open-minded approach and cultural awereness. Yet, choral singing has to fight with serious challenges as it is stamped with an old-fashioned image in resepect to new globalized trends. Choir conductors and managers are trying hard to change this process, but the conditions of Hungarian choral professionals are limited: most of the conductors work as a public community contribution, they lack time and financial funds for professional development, they lack foreign language capacities, project management approach and have limited connections and network to get new impressions and motivation, especially from the international scene. The EUROPA CANTAT Pécs 2015 Nonprofit Ltd, KÓTA - National Association of Hungarian Choirs and Orchestras and the Association of Choirs of the City of Szeged are important actors of the Hungarian choral life, their main task is to promote and support choral movement, as a non formal way of adult education. The three institutions created a national consortium called "Cantat Spirit", to support with joint forces the opening of Hungarian choral movement towards international cooperations and to introduce Hungarian choirs to international networks through European mobility programs. The Cantat Spirit project was inspired by the EUROPA CANTAT International Choral Festival to be organized in the city of Pécs, in Hungary in 2015. EUROPA CANTAT is an event of the European Choral Association - Europa Cantat, Europe's biggest choral network. It is also called as the "Mecca" of choral movement, where participants have the possibilities to learn new methods, repertoir and develop their network. The aim of the consortium is to prepare Hungarian choral actors to benefit from possibilities of this festival and to connect Hungarian choral professionals with international networks. The consortium signed cooperation agreements with 6 partners in Europe, who work in close cooperation with the European Choral Association - Europa Cantat and follow their approach by focusing on pedagogical development, international cooperation and realize their activites by professional project management. The consortium will send 2-2 participants, in total 12 persons to the selected Study Tours in Estonia and Norway, 2 masterclasses and a choral management program in France, furthermore a conference in Spain. The participants will be selected through open application from the employees and members of the consortium partners, based upon their basic language capabilities and motivation. Both participants and host organizations will continously report on the ongoing mobility project. The project development will be shared on the communication platforms of all consortium partners. The results of the program will be published in local, regional, national and international level through an online publication as well as through a short promotion film shared in community channels. As firts results the Cantat Spirit project will contribute to the development of foreign language capabilities of the participants, their international network will open up, they will learn new pedagogical and project management methods. In the long term these inspirational mobilities will motivate participants to support their colleagues in the Hungarian choral scene and develop new international cooperation projects.
