Camino a Finlandia: Primera etapa
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

The traditional education system does not meet the expectations and demands of modern society. It is the responsibility of schools to accelerate the transformation of pedagogical operational capacity to respond to these needs and effectively prepare their students as citizens of the 21st century. The project: "On our way to Finland: Stage 1" represents the first major step to boost and modernize our educational culture and shorten the gap that separates us from pioneer European educational systems that have demonstrated educational excellence through tested objective results.‘Colegio Plurilingüe Losada’ is an inclusive charter school -Pre-School, Primary and Secondary Education- in Vigo, Spain. The teaching staff consists of 24 teachers and it has 310 students. Our school pursues the quality of education through teacher training and the introduction of innovative methodologies to strengthen and extend the lines of work started: multilingualism, cooperative learning, attention to diversity and technologies. The main activity of our project is focused on a training course on the Finnish education system, which will take place in Joensuu North-Karelia (Finland). We will learn more about the educational culture of this country and its elements of school management and organization and especially we will know how special needs and ICT are wholly integrated in the classroom. Visiting different Finnish schools and talks with management and teachers staff will give us the opportunity to learn first-hand the different elements that make up this renowned educational system. This training will lead us to reflect on the development needs of our school and it will inspire the necessary transformative actions towards the quality of teaching. In addition, participants will take two other training courses that strengthen and complement this first action. The first course on teaching primary and secondary CLIL areas aims to improve and acquire new skills, tools and methodology applicable to the didactics of science in English. A second course in English in the UK is proposed to strengthen the language skills of participating teachers. The group of 6 teachers who participate in these activities is made up of representatives of different areas of interest: the principal of the school, the psychologist-counselor and coordinator of the special needs section and four faculty representatives from the areas of technology, CLIL, primary and secondary. We consider it necessary that participants belong to different areas of expertise so they can contribute from different points of view and get a global vision and more productive results through the collaborative work.Teachers will do pre-training courses, research and study before the mobility. During mobility, they will elaborate documents with knowledge received, reflections and evaluation reports. After the mobilities they will assess the activities and propose future strategies and training. With this project, we will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to implement the improvement plan in a more efficient manner from the point of view of the organization and planning of the school. Multiple skills, methodology and innovative tools will be acquired to transform practical learning especially in areas related to the English language, ICT and treatment of diversity in the classroom. These actions will facilitate and encourage the exchange of experiences and best practices with experts and teachers of the educational community and enhance the international dimension of our school. In the long term, this project will promote new cooperative projects with other European schools, where the exchange of knowledge and experiences among students will be included. It will also fuel the development of our improvement plan aimed to meet the educational requirements of the twenty-first century offering quality education. This project is considered the first step in a complex and ambitious process of transformation of our school vision planned for five years which aims to create a school of the future inspired on the revolutionary Finnish design.
