Business Critical Learning for individuals working in SMEs

The Become project developed an online tool that clearly and graphically shows how training can be measured in meeting both a business's competitive needs and individuals development of their skills. Partners from Belgium, France, Greece, Italy, Poland, Spain and the UK designed and produced a tool that has been applied transnationally. The project developed an existing research instrument the "Distance Travelled Tool"(DTT) which had: 1 Engaged small and micro firms in VET 2 Helped to develop training plans for individual employees 3 Demonstrated to owners and managers that training was a Return on Investment (ROI) to the business 4 Demonstrated to employees the contribution of their increased skills both to their own personal targets and to the Business Critical Needs (BCNs) of the company. The new tool, "Cartesia", is a user friendly instrument, produced in the appropriate native language and supported by customised guidebooks, that measured how training for individual employees helped meet the BCNs of the enterprise. The tool enabled trainers and intermediaries to graphically demonstrate to the owners and employees of SMEs the results of their learning journey and its impact on their own business and individual skills development.
