BUS – The archipelago of children and youths (BUS- barns och ungdomars skärgård)

The ’’BUS’’ project was developed for the youth in the archipelago regions in Nyland,Åboland, Åland and Stockholm. The archipelago region is dependent on strong individualswith an interest and desire to maintain a living archipelago regarding nature, environment,population, culture, enterprise and general social structure. The project focused oncreating and increasing the participation of young people and to strengthen their identityin the archipelago.Using concrete youth activities, people were given the possibility to affect their localenvironment as well as the municipal activities (active citizenship). Other aims were tostrengthen the archipelago identity and the feeling of belonging, to create youth networksand develop forms of cooperation. By providing young people with the possibility to affecttheir local environment, the aim was to reduce the negative attitude to life in thearchipelago, to strengthen the archipelago identity, create a spirit of community andstrengthen the possibilities for a positive development and future in the archipelago.
