BUILDING UP A NETWORK FOR DISSEMINATION OF THE NOVEL FOOD LEGISLATION AND NEW TECHNOLOGIES USED IN NOVEL FOOD PRODUCTION

In an ever growing food market offering a multitude of alternatives, would it not be exciting to acquaint with novel foods? A vast range of technologies is used in novel food production across the world; yet, the technology used in one country may not be familiar to another. Given the dynamic nature of the issue and the continuous change of legislation, people involved in the novel food business have difficulties in catching up with the most recent technological and legislative developments. This project aims to deliver in-depth resources to a target group, composed of food operators, food inspectors, officials and experts working in the novel food area, by building a web page. The wealth of information made available on the internet will serve to improve the technical background of the target group by introducing them with new technologies used in novel food production as well as with the relevant legislation of the EU, a strict follower of novel foods. The web page will ensure the sustainability of information flow. The beneficiary instutition has gained information on the current situation of selected EU countries via the output of the project, namely the web page. This project has also enabled the beneficiaries to expand their vision, improve personnel capacity and strengthen their knowledge. Study visits to partner countries and their relevant institutions, including the Food Safety Agency (FSA), have further contributed to information exchange and the establishment of cooperation on a friendly footing.
