Building Blocks Towards Adult Life Skills
Start date: Sep 1, 2009,

Building Blocks Towards Adult Life Skills aims at providing education to a group of persons with learning difficulties about sexuality, social skills, public speaking and relationships. This sample was chosen since they had not acquired such education during their schooling years since the inclusion scheme was not provided at the time. In fact most of them either attended special schools or had no form of education at all. This project will be offered in four seminar/ workshops along the year, which are weekend based, with the aim of enhancing their awareness and support them in their inclusion and equality in society. Youth volunteers will be co ordinating such workshops and also participating in this training to further enhance inclusion and integration with same age peer group youths. The venue chosen for such a project is a retreat house in Bahar ic-Caghaq which is accessible for persons with disability, is located in a quiet and relaxing environment and at the same time ideal to hold seminars and workshops in due to the ample space. The methods applied during the workshops will involve a lot of hands on activities and visual activities so that persons with learning difficulties can understand and participate. The methods applied during the four workshops require small groups of people in each group and therefore this project is open to twenty maltese youths who are members of Grupp Flimkien Naslu. A hand book will be devised at the end of the four workshops as a result of these groups and will be presented in a final seminar for other persons with learning difficulties.
