Building a stronger student centered learning environment
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our project entitled “Building a stronger student centered learning environment” will involve 8 teachers who will be educated on the aforementioned topic and transfer the results of the received education to the remaining staff of the school (80 teachers). New knowledge, ideas, views, perspectives and teaching approaches will be integrated by all teachers in the learning process in order to motivate students to participate in lesson more actively, effectively and creatively. The 8 teachers involved will participate in courses in four different European countries (Belgium, Germany, France and Portugal). These teachers will constitute the support team which will collaborate with the rest of the teachers for the design of lessons plans which will integrate technology, the presentation of the courses outcomes to their colleagues and the organizations of sample lessons. The school, aided by this team will organize courses and workshops for all the teachers of the school. The project aims to improve specific educational areas, such as, the encouragement of teachers to experiment with new teaching approaches through technology, equip students with the necessary skills enabling them to use the existing online learning environment (eg. production of video as a quality tool) and familiarize teachers and students with open source software. The project will give the opportunity to staff to get in touch with action methods improving motivation and quality in e-learning environment and compare teaching approaches and methods used in Europe nowadays. It will also encourage teachers to cooperate with colleagues from other countries that will participate in the seminars or through eTwinning in order to exchange experience with each other, in the field of integration of technology in the teaching process. The administrative staff of the school will monitor the progress of the project and the management of it. In close cooperation with the participating teachers, they will be in contact with the course providers before, during and after the course. They will also have the financial management of the project and will make the best use of the awarded grant. In addition, the administrative staff will monitor students' interest in lessons through a questionnaire that will be distributed every four months and will also ask for feedback by the support team. Moreover, it will also assess the progress of the project by questionnaires that will be given to teachers and through the teachers' reports. Finally, both the administrative staff and the participating teachers, will be responsible for the dissemination of the results of the project. The final products and results of the training activities will be disseminated in several ways (mass media, presentations, press releases, WebPages) to all the relevant stakeholders. This project is expected to have an impact on the improvement/development of teachers and students knowledge, skills and attitudes towards modern teaching methods and through the integration of ICT. The range of teachers' training and other activities will increase staff professional development and enable them to properly perform their new role as students' facilitators. Teachers are expected to become aware of learning practices used in Europe and improve their teaching methods. The knowledge gained from the courses, will be transferred to them and become a stimulus for discussion and action. They will prepare material, which will be used for teaching students. It is also expected that they will be able to create intercultural material, which will be used for immigrants students. In long term, the project is expected to help the school to face the demands and the challenges of a rapidly changing technological era and it will send the message to teachers and students that there must be a continuous reflection on the teaching and learning process through the effective use of technology in lessons.
