Bridging the Channels is a project which will create a new kind of cross-channel education and culture network by combining the strengths and experience of 5 very different schools in a whole-school programme of cross-border exchange. Our activities are in subject areas that will generate enthusiasm for developing bilingualism, citizenship, and cross-border cultural awareness, and will involve pupils and teachers who are not language specialists and would normally be unlikely to engage in these issues in their daily work or study. The paired Franco-British teams of pupils and teachers, are teacher/pupil designed and led rather than imposed from the top down, and are aimed primarliy at pupils who have had little opportunity to take part in traditional foreign language exchanges
