Bridging Differences Through Music

In our global world, social interaction is an outstanding factor to establish an inclusive and cohesive European community. Therefore, we need to include all kind of individuals in these interactions and all individuals regardless of their background and capabilities, namely abled, disabled, gifted and talented, must play an active role together for being future citizens of Europa. We should find ways to integrate all kind of individuals and in such a case music gets significant value as an effective instrument. Music includes cultural elements and their reflections for each society and also has a universal language. In our project, by means of music we aim to integrate different kind of individuals which can be specifies as abled, disabled and gifted. As understanding social, emotional and physical needs of different individuals can vary and especially disabled individuals face the threat of social isolation and we aim to gain our participants social identity and mutual respect and necessary skills to interact to each other in a European context. Regarding the European priorities, the project is based on cross cultural experiences which support cultural diversity and international understanding. All participants will discover the value of respect. Teachers and members of association will share and exchange their experiences and practices in order to develop educative and social skills by sharing ideas, tasks, knowledge and materials. The students will have abundant opportunities of social skills while interacting with each other which will promote self-confidence, cooperation skills and inspire acceptance. All participants have greater understanding and responsiveness to social, linguistic and cultural diversity and more positive attitude towards other European communities. All the participants will be able to have opportunities to enhance the use of information and communications technology and to see it as a tool for communication, collaboration and production to be a part of future digital society easily. Students and especially disabled students will find new ways to convey their feelings nonverbally and be aware of each other and special musical instruments that can be developed for disabled individuals. All the participants will be aware of the value of learning and embracing European languages as well.We will make use of musical practices in the form of presentations, videos, Internet, social media, bulletin boards, and posters, brochures in order to learn and compare different lifestyles. We will learn customs, traditions, folklore of each other. We will also our own songs of love, improvised and peace song and have the joy of living and sharing together in a European context. Apart from cultural events and public displays, we will have e-book of our project songs, pocket calendar and songs CDs for dissemination purposes.All the partners share the same need namely integrating their participants with different kind of individuals and they have strengths and different backgrounds which will enrich the scope of the project and share of practices in various aspects. We will carry out the project according to the planned activities, budget and time schedule. The responsibilities of the coordinator and of the partners are determined. We will work cooperatively.All the participants will acquire lifelong skills of establishing an inclusive society and teaching and learning skills having cultural respect and European added value.
