Context: secondary school with a certain prestige in Menorca, and particularly within the city of Ciutadella de Menorca, but not currently involved in any project or program related to increase the use of foreign language in non-linguistic areas as may be the European sections, the British Council or other bi- or trilingual program. The school currently implements a quality system ISO 9001/2000.
Number and profile of participants: 4 participants, including 3 English teachers (two of them would attend a course exclusively to perfect their knowledge of the language and the methodology in their teaching and the other a course to learn about the Finnish education system) and a professor of social sciences interested in improving their English.
There will be four activities: a two-week-course to deepen language and British culture (to be done by two English teachers), two one-week study visits in Finland and Iceland to directly take part in the Finnish an Icelandic education systems and a one-week-course of English language and culture to teachers from non-linguistic areas (to be done by two teachers from non-linguistic subjects).
Methodology: on the one hand, the fact of applying what they have learnt in class should already be a direct benefit to students which should be reflected in their academic results, both in terms of marks as for possible external evaluations. On the other hand, the intention in the medium term is that our teachers share what they have learned, both in relation to the methodology and in relation to new teaching tools or assessment with their colleagues inside and outside of school, either through conferences, seminars, lectures, workshops, etc.
In the long term, this project should serve to achieve an improvement in the acquisition of basic skills of our students, both in terms of communication in a foreign language and other skills in different levels and areas.
