Bodies that matter
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Nov 1, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Youth Exchange "Bodies that matter" is a trilateral activity with partners from Poland, Italy and Germany which includes 21+3 participants. It aims at consolidating consciousness in the area of gender diversity and countering discrimination outside as well as within the very queer community in the European context. With particular attention on initiation of self-fulfillment and realization, the training of value and factual judgement, and establishing acceptance and tolerance of other ways of living. The exchange mostly focuses on: 1st Raising awareness of young people in regard to the LGBTQIA contexts in Italy, Poland, Germany 2nd Initiation of self-fulfillment and realization 3rd Promotion of respect and understanding towards other ways of living The participants come from different backgrounds: there are pupils and students (aged from 18-29 years) who either still live with their families or those who just moved out to start lives on their own. But also young people who do not have a linear CV due to their sexual orientation or identity (left parental home early, dropped out of school or professional education). The majority of participants most likely have experienced discrimination and exclusion caused by homo- and/or trans*phobia in their lives. The activity is based on methods of informal learning and draws on a wide variety of elements, such as role playing, barometer, learning collages and clusters, as well as talks with experts and people with similar experiences. The participants will improve their employability as well as their foreign language skills, while at the same time being offered new ways of thinking. They will be introduced to the idea of "learning to learn", feel more as citizens of Europe, share European values and will have experienced them through the exchange itself. In particular, the participants will deepen their knowledge on gender issues and identities, with the focus being the identity of transgender and inter* people.
