Young persons of orphanages shall have the opportunity of learning to know other European countries and their population, of gaining cross border friendships, of learning to know European possibilities of further education and possibly make use of it. A pilot project including each one orphanage and one Rotary- Club in Russia and Germany shall pass on first experiences prior to extending this project up to 8 European countries (incl. Russia), up to 16 orphanages and 16 neighbouring/supporting Rotary clubs. The pilot project shall be executed in 2016, on positive results extended and continued for an unlimited period.Orphanages in up to 8 European/Russian countries shall create a network and shall cooperate as sender on the one hand and host on the other.In the pilot project, 20 persons (10 Germans, 10 Russians) will travel, including 16 (8+8) young persons and 4 (2+2) custodians. In the hosting orphanages, more than the 8 travelling young persons will take part in the offered group workshops like theatre, paper presentations, sightseeing tours, sports and play activities. At first, the Russian group visits the German group; after one week both groups travel to Russia, from where the German group returns after another week. If possible, the age of the young persons shall not be less than 13 years and not be more than 17 years. For that reason, the groups will mainly consist of pupils and trainees.The following activities will be planned: Language instructions English, basics German and Russian, preparing and carrying out group studies, presentation of papers by the young persons, visits of significant historical buildings and museums, important political institutions e.g. like a State Parliament, plays and sports.The young inhabitants of the hosting orphanage, supported by their custodians and the local Rotary- Club, draw up the week program in the host country and take care for lodging, food and transport capacity.The organizers hope to gain long term benefit from this activity: improvement of language competence of the young persons, strengthening of their self-confidence, cooperation in European education, European networking, improvement of knowledge about European countries and European consciousness.
