The regions of Kosice and Encs (but also northern Heves and Nógrád counties) have good characteristics in terms of agriculture, but are at present disadvantageous regions. They could provide agricultural products (e.g. corn) and agricultural waste for a potential biogas plant, which could supply thermal and electric energy in an environmentally sustainable way for the inhabitants of the area. It would enhance the region´s economy and competitivness, and would also resolve social problems (employment).With this Project, we wish to investigate the conditions of this prospect in details.The planned biogas plant would be installed close to the border, such it would be a cohesive force for residents, businesses and organizations for both sides of the border (e.g. stock supply, cooperation between organizations, collaboration among farmers, etc.). Achievements: The main project objective was to strengthen the competitiveness of the border area. Specific objectives were promoting the dissemination of new technologies, increasing the competitiveness of local producers, partial energy independence at the level of micro-regions, and strengthening the cooperation of professional organizations. They could provide agricultural products (e.g. corn) and agricultural waste for a potential biogas plant which could supply thermal and electric energy in an environmentally sustainable way for the inhabitants of the area. Therefore the project partners prepared the project documentation for the construction of a biogas station in order to use the above mentioned opportunities and increase the environmental potential.
