Bildung in und für steirische Museen - Neue Perspektiven durch Fortbildung
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Erasmus+ KA1 mobility project „Education in and for Styrian museums – new perspectives through further education“ is organised by MUSIS, the Styrian museum association, and realised together with two Styrian museums, the GrazMuseum (city museum of Graz) and the Southern Railway Museum Mürzzuschlag. Three education managers of MUSIS and six cultural educators from the museums broadened their knowledge by means of conferences, seminars and workshops over the course of the project, which run from 1 June 2015 until 1 June 2016. Furthermore, they acquired know-how for adult and cultural education. On the basis of the activity of MUSIS as education provider for museums and the education activities of the museums in the context of cultural education, it is very important for the consortium to orientate the current education activities towards international standards as well as to expand the already existing international network and to use it on a long-term basis. Main objectives are to improve the present learning opportunities and to encourage new developments. As education provider for museums, MUSIS additionally wants to use the mobility experience of the participants from the museums, in order to also establish educational opportunities concerning the chosen topics of the museums in Austria. The selected mobilities deal with current challenges and developments, such as the growing diversity of society, technological change, the integration of new target groups, difficult mediation situations etc. They are an important basis for the participants, in order to enable a professional reaction to these challenges. In addition, best practice examples allow a comparison of one's own institution with international organisations. The achieved changes and improvements will have concrete long-term effects on the museum visitors and the learners in the education programmes of MUSIS: The expectations of the project leader MUSIS in terms of the expansion of knowledge and know-how, the development of new offers and cooperations joint by a further professionalisation of activities within and outside the organisation, for the benefit of the learners, are already visible and shall be fostered in the near future. Specific target groups, such as people with special needs or with migrant background, are to be reached better by the museums. Existing offers have to be adapted to their demands or specifically designed for the respective target group. The aim is a more active participation in social interaction of diverse social groups and the creation of a historico-cultural contextualisation as well as the rise of (inter)cultural awareness of individual visitors by the museum offers.
