Bike Lanes for Citizens and Visitors to Kyustendil and Kriva Palanka (BLKK)

The project aims to improve the physical environment and quality of life for citizens and tourists in cross-border region wimp Kyustendil and Kriva Palanka, through the expansion of mutual cooperation and efficient use of existing natural ecological resources.Activities:- Reconstruction of sidewalks and construction of biking trails in Kyustendil- Facilitating the access of citizens (including persons with disabilities) and tourists to major urban areas in Kyustendil and Kriva Palanka, creating an integrated environment and conditions for active participation in initiatives for the protection and sustainable use of natural ecological resources- Increased public awareness and confidence in EU environmental policies and the benefits of projects for society, ensuring transparency of the project. Achievements: • Constructed bicycle lanes in Kyustendil and Kriva Palanka withinstallation traffic signs in favour of citizens and visitors to the twocities;• Easy access and created conditions for active involvement of citizens(including those with disabilities) and visitors to the two municipalitiesfor protection and joint sustainable use of the natural resources;• Created conditions for active involvement of the economic agents fromthe cross-border region Kyustendil - Kriva Palanka in the processes ofintegration and economic development of the two municipalities;• Public transparency provided, public awareness raised for projectimplementation and increased confidence among the citizens, NGOsand the business sector;• Two press conferences conducted;• 4 publications in local/ national mass media;• 10 press releases for the project progress published on the web-sites ofthe two municipalities;• 1000 project promotional brochures designed, printed and widelydisseminated;• Elaborated Assessment Report on the prospective impact of the bikelanes construction and use on the environment in the two cities;• Elaborated Report with proposals for policy changes and measuresrelated to the environment preservation;• 6 informational boards installed.The project has been successfully accomplished in January 2014.
