Big and Little sister
Start date: May 4, 2015, End date: May 4, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Big and little sister is an EVS project which focusses on creating chances for young adults and youngsters to broaden their horizons, to empower themselves by means of non-formal learning in youth organizations, and this through leisure and free time activities. Young adults and youngsters between get in contact with eachother and local communities and thus create learning opportunities for all! . Wingerdbloei will act as a hosting organisation for four long term volunteers and 2 short term volunteers aged between 21 an 30 years. We wish the volunteers to live and work in Belgium for a period of minimum 6 months and maximum 12 months for long term volunteers, 2 months during summer holidays for short term volunteers . They will be located in the city of Antwerp (Deurne). As Evs volunteers they will support girls with a social difficult background of a Belgian institution for youth care, and this support will be on the items of leisure and inclusion. During summer period long term as well as short term volunteers will support and assist professional staff in preparation and execution of group summer camps and holiday actitivities. Inevitably connected to organising the live of young people, a lot of logisitcal is inherent to the work. The main idea is to bring a positive example of how a young person can reach certain aims by trying to achieve goals in a positive way. We strongly belief in creating silimar chances for youngsters with fewer opportunities. To create a two way street with Slovenia and to strenghten our partnership we are not only hosting their volunteers, but we are sending a short term volunteers of 17 years to Slovenia to commit herself to a project, this for aprroximately one month . The activities will be in the field of leisure time such as hand craft, art, dance classes, but also sports, ecofarming, gardening, taking care of animals. Targetgroups of the activities are diverse: disabled, local children, children in a youth centre, and the wider local community. To us the service itself is not the most important goal we want to achieve, more important is the chances and the opportunities the volunteers get and take, the system of non-formal learning to gain a lifetime experience, and the process a volunteer goes through while being in the project and on activity.
