Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Jan 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The BHH Sozialkontor gGmbH is a non-profit and non-confessional orientated organization for the care for persons with disabilities. It offers support to adults with or without handicaps. The objective of the BHH is to ease an existing handicap or its' consequences and to enable the disabled people to live and participate actively in our society. The BHH disposes of 6 accredited evs projects with 1 -3 evs placements each. The volunteers accompany people with mental and / or physical handicaps during their every-day-life and their free-time. The volunteers contribute to existing offers. In addition to that they realize their own projects depending on their personal interests and competences. They participate in projects with reference to Europe for ex. during the "Europa Woche" ("Europe-Week") or during (youth) information events. The objectives of evs are: raising the awareness for the work with disabled people, widening of social and professional skills, empowerment of one's own initiative and promotion of living and working in an intercultural context. Impacts / benefits: The issue "Europe" and intercultural living together become more evident for the disabled people and the volunteers. The volunteers improve their personal, professional and linguistical competences. Many people in Hamburg find out more about Europe and evs: pupils, students, the disabled people and their families in our residential homes and our members of staff. We'd like to host 6 young people who are seeking for experiences with disabled people for the duration of 12 months each. Activity A1: 3 young women from Italy, Spain and Norway. Activity A2: 1 young woman from Russia as well as 2 young men from Bosnia-Herzegowina and Serbia.
