Best Practice in Assessment and Classification Tools

Individuals with disabilities / disadvantages were not receiving adequate assessments, training and preparation to make them knowledgeable enough about their competencies and skills to find and keep a job. Even when they were able to obtain employment, they had difficulty maintaining work due to a lack of or misidentification of their aptitudes and skills for job matching. Repeating the job search process negatively have impacted their self-esteem, confidence and motivation. Employers who recruited an individual with an impairment spent personnel and financial resources as an investment into the person's career and the company's productivity. They appreciated a much larger retention rate than what they were getting. They needed comfort and confidence that their contribution was not in vain and that the employee will last.Providers of SE services need better methods and skills for completion of an initial needs assessment consistently and effectively in order to help the client develop and implement a sound plan of action. Similarly, they need case management training to provide quality support to the individual. The result of these gaps in assessment and training at the client, employer and provider level was a large volume of individuals not properly and securely engaged with the workforce. The impact on a country's social systems and economy could be devastating. This project was designed to tackle these issues at all 3 levels. It aimed to introduce methodology and training that would assist with job matching processes and long term retention.
